americana hussy

album coming late summer 2026

"Go on and call me an Americana Hussy. The truth is you can't handle my kind of country."

Why "hussy?"For me - yours truly, the one and only Erin Bonnie (said with hyperbolic sass and a flip of my curls) -  the word "hussy" has two meanings. The first is most certainly tied to the textbook definition: a lewd or brazen woman; a saucy or mischievous girl. Thank you Merriam Webster. I do indeed find myself GUILTY on all counts. I believe women should be seen AND heard, and use their feminine wiles to their advantage. Turn the volume up. Suffer no fools.

The second meaning is more figurative. I'm a hussy for Americana music. It's the good shit. What raised me. What's made me the songwriter - and to a certain extent, the woman - I am. So go ahead and call me an Americana Hussy. An Old Time Harlot*. A Bluegrass Tramp*. A Classic Country Cunt*. A Blues Rock Bitch*. A Pop Country Slut*. A Fuck Girl for Folk*. I'll take it and give it straight back - in the form of a 31-song, 6-Act Compendium of Erin Bonnie-style all original Americana Music. That's right y'all. This is a PROJECT. So buckle up cowpokes and get ready for the Americana Hussy experience.

*Explanation Of Terms

Harlot: I'm promiscuous when it comes to that old time feel

Tramp: I give it up for that high lonesome bluegrass sound

Cunt: I swing it around for that classic country twang, you know what I mean ;)

Bitch: I say exactly what I mean when that blues rock groove hits

Slut: I'll do anything for a pop country hook

Fuck-Girl: I'll play with your emotions for that good good folk song lyric material

The truth of the matter is this: In the music industry, a business dominated by men, all kinds of people make assumptions about the women who walk into rooms, onto stages, and up to the mic. They use derogatory terms to describe those women based on the simple fact that they exist and take up space. In my opinion, when someone says "hussy" what they should say is "smart". When someone says "tramp" what they should say  is "independent."  When someone says "cunt" or "bitch" what they should say is "leader." When someone says "harlot" or "slut" what they  should say is "confident." So I'm owning it. AND my crass cranky loud-mouth ...

Erin Bonnie

Americana folk-rock mama

Montana made. Boston Found. Americana Hussy Bound.

A roots crooner with a feminist bent, Erin Bonnie is an Americana Folk-Rock Mama and fiddle player with style and presence to boot. Taking inspiration from artists like Gillian Welch, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, and Dolly Parton, she is a true singer-songwriter at heart. Her songs are lush in language and melody, and she lives for those intimate moments of truth between audience and artist that happen because of a song and a stage. You can catch her from Cambridge to Connecticut at Erin Bonnie headlined shows, as one half of the denim-clad folk duo Two Lilies with co-conspirator Beni Brosh, or as a supporting musician for Boston's own country rock diva Elisa Smith.

Between gigs, sessions, and cowrites, you'll find Erin Bonnie on a different kind of stage - that of the classroom. As an Associate Professor of Songwriting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, she teaches  anything and everything from Intro to Advanced Lyric Writing, Songwriting, and Performance courses.

Accolades include sync placements on Young and The Restless, Honorable Mention in American Songwriter magazine Lyric Contest, nominated for New England Music Awards Best In State MA, Nashville recording experience with Grammy-winning and platinum-status talent on Elisa Smith’s Hitch A Ride produced by Johnny Duke (Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, and Chris Stapleton), and the Don Wilkins Excellence in Curriculum Development Award.

Check out her most-recent single "Roger," a guitar-driven acoustic indie-folk character observation exploring the themes of love, fulfillment, life, and what it means to really live one. Now streaming on all platforms.

reviews spring 2025

"[Erin] Bonnie’s songwriting and style somehow manages to be simultaneously fresh and timeless. She might have graduated from the Berklee College of Music, but her repertoire has more in common with the Conservatory of Sawdust Floors and Lonely Roadside Bars." - Jay Jenne
